Visit to Meet Birth Relatives

We didn't know if we would be able to meet the birth relatives or if we would get any advance notice if we were able to meet Abera's birth relatives. We got word from WHFC this morning that we will be traveling on Sunday to meet them.

So this is how I think it works. We arrive on Saturday night into Addis Ababa. The driver for WHFC will pick us up at the airport and take us to the Guest House which is also where the babies are. We may get to peek in on Abera who will be asleep. Then the next morning at 7 a.m. we leave for Awassa. WHFC hires a car and driver for us and another family that is also going to visit birth relatives. We spend the day visiting the villages of the birth relatives and stay overnight in Awassa. The next day we return to Addis Ababa for our visa appointment with the U.S. Embassy.

Abera will not be making the trip to visit his birth relatives. It is a long, hard trip and we don't want to pull him away from his comfortable surroundings until he has a chance to get to know us. It will be so difficult to leave him after seeing him for just a few short hours. But, it is better this way so we will have uninterrupted time for the rest of our stay in Ethiopia.

4 more days. . .
